While walking down the Somerville bike path a little kid pedaled up to me on his bike. Both of us wearing masks, except he also had on a Spider-Man helmet. I’m guessing he’s 4. “Hi” he says. I say “Hi buddy” hoping his dad catches up to us. Nervous I might be perceived as some sort of
predator. He tells me, “I might have ice cream and gummies today.” It’s a good day for ice cream, I say. Then we got to the cross walk and he stopped. He pointed at the white line and said, “stop here.” I told him to have a nice Saturday and went on my way. 30 seconds later he flew by me on his bike. Fast little Spider-Man. The whole thing made me smile a little and also sad a little. What a world we’re living in...It also gave me a craving for Ice cream and gummies. Took a different route on the walk back. Saw a $10 bill in the weeds behind a building. I look around to see if anyone is nearby. Nope. Then I wonder, what if this crumpled money is covered with covid? Fuck it. I take it anyway. Got home and lysoled it. What a world we’re living in...Now I’m going for a bike ride. Maybe ice cream later.
